Class descriptions

* Ages are approximate and class placement will be at the teacher’s discretion.

Primary I (ballet):  An adult and me ballet class for our 2 to 3 year old ballerinas. Our students will learn basic ballet movements and other creative movements with music in an engaging class.

Primary II (ballet & tap):  For dancers ages 4-5 years old.  Students will learn basic ballet and tap movements and terminology in these engaging classes.  

Primary III (ballet, tap, jazz):  For dancers 6-7 years old with typically around two-four years of dance experience.  Students will increase knowledge of basic ballet and tap movements and terminology and will begin learning combinations of steps. Dancers at this level begin jazz class where they will learn jazz steps, isolations, and conditioning to upbeat music.  

Level I (ballet, tap, jazz):  For dancers 8-10 years old, with varying levels of dance experience.  Students should know basic movements.  Emphasis will be placed on proper technique.  Dancers should be able to learn and remember short combinations and theory.

Level II (ballet, tap, jazz, pre-pointe / pointe):  For dancers 10-13 years old, with varying levels of dance experience.  Students should know basic movements.  Emphasis will be placed on proper technique.  Dancers should be able to learn and remember short combinations and theory.

Level III (ballet, tap, jazz, pointe):  For dancers 12+ years of age, who have passed the Grade I and/or II Cecchetti exams.  Students should know advanced movements and terminology and should be ready to build on skills and technique in combinations.   Level 3 dancers continue training for the Grade II or IV Cecchetti exams.

 

Lyrical 1: Lyrical dance is a style that combines ballet and jazz dancing techniques. It is performed to music with lyrics so that it inspires expression of strong emotions. It is required that students are enrolled in Level 1 or 2 to take this class.

Lyrical 2: Lyrical dance is a style that combines ballet and jazz dancing techniques. It is performed to music with lyrics so that it inspires expression of strong emotions. It is required that students are enrolled in Level 2 or 3 to take this class.

Hip Hop all levels: Students will learn age appropriate hip hop dance moves, terminology, and technique set to upbeat music. 

  • Bronze: For dancers ages 6-8 years old, this class teaches the basics of breaking, popping, and waacking

  • Silver: For dancers ages 9-12 years old, this class teaches breaking, popping, and waacking, in addition to freestyling, strengthening, and conditioning

  • Gold: For dancers ages 13 years old and up, this class teaches advanced breaking, popping, and waacking, in addition to freestyling, strengthening, and conditioning
